“Civil Discourse”, Relief and Screen print, 12″ x 9″ completed in Brandon Sanderson’s Kitchen Sink course at Frogman’s Printmaking workshop in Omaha. This image is inspired by the toxic communication I see transpiring on a daily basis. The text is paraphrased from Proverbs 25:15 “With patience a ruler may be persuaded, and a soft tongue will break a bone.” I heard this in an interview Joe Rogan had with Megan Phelps-Roper on his podcast when she was talking about leaving the WBC. It’s long interview (3 hours), but very interesting – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hOnefFVBEb0
“The Devil Comes to Kansas” – This print was completed during my first year teaching (2007 – 2008) at Emporia State. The devil is taken from Durer’s “Knight, Death and Devil”. The bottom right features a portrait of my Lake Charles, LA friend Rusty. While the imagery is humorous, it was my way of coping with moving away from family and friends and dealing with the pressures involved with heading the first and only BFA in Engraving Arts. This print and few other early works will be up at Gravel City Roasters as a part of Emporia First Friday tomorrow.
